Pet Peeves

  • Drivers who do not use their turn signal when making turns
  • Ladies who do not clean the toilet area in the rest room for the next person. (Check the toilet - we don't want to sit or look at your "stuff".)
  • Being late.
  • Crumbs and schmutz on counters.
  • Typos.

News 8 Daybreak Scroll - updates

When watching the news this morning, WFAA News 8 Daybreak did not run the news scroll this morning. Wonder if I had anything to do with it?

Tuesday, July 20
They did have the scroll on this morning. One grammatical error (which was fixed) and one had and question mark after a word. Did not notify them. It seems to be that the errors are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thursday, July 22
The news program did not have the scoll on early this morning, but had it on later in the program. The typo this morning was on the bottom header of a particular health news report. The word that was incorrect was "rebab" instead of "rehab".
I e-mailed the executive producer and did not hear from him. I saw the news story again on the noon telecast and I sent him the incorrect typo! The typo I sent was "rebah" and should have been "rebab". Oh, well. The executive producer must have the day off.

Daybreak

I watch News 8 Daybreak in the morning when getting ready to go to work. I am probably one of those rare people who read the news scrolls on the bottom of the TV screeen.

On Tuesday morning while reading the scroll, I noticed two typos. After about an hour of watching the news program and thinking someone at the station would find the errors, I contacted the station via their Facebook page. Here is the conversation:

Fran DeWysockieNews 8 Daybreak: Who proofs the scrolls on the bottom of the screen? Check out the last three words of the "Garlington Lane" fire and the "K2" story (K@).

Fran, It is "Garlington Lane". But thanks for the heads up on the K@, we're fixing that now.

It is great to know that television stations listen to their viewers! I love their morning newscast and only want the best for them.

Toffee

May 1, 2010 was one of the most difficult days in my life. That was the day that we had to put our sweet, lovable Toffee down.

About two years ago, Toffee started to get a growth on his backend. It had grown steadily since then. When we took him to the vet to have it checked out, he suggested that it be removed. Since Toffee is an older dog, we decided not to have it removed.

On Thursday, April 22, he started to bleed from a growth. We took him to the vet on Friday for him to exam it. It was not good. We decided at that time to make Toffee's life as comfortable as possible.

The mass started to get worse, so we decided to have him put down one week later. Needless to say, Toffee got extra treats, was spoiled more rotten than he has been. Saying goodbye to him everyday, many tears, memories flowing, knowing that he was loved by all of us, made the time with him special.

We had the most wonderful three years with Toffee. We are so glad that Karen brought him home from the Humane Society in March 2007. She misses him so much. So do we.

Today is a milestone day for the first boy I fell in love with. He is now 60. This relationship has lasted 40 years. If he only knew...

Happy Birthday!

A Poem

I wrote this poem for a publication in grade school. Thought I would share it with the world:

Spring, Spring
Brings many things,
Birds will sing and
Flap their wings.

Plumbing

Since November, the sinks in Karen's bathroom have been clogged. She has asked us to have them fixed, but we were just to lazy to call anyone. We tried Liquid Plummer, tried to get the stopper out of the sink to put a snake through, but did not work.

I am hosting a baby shower within the next two weeks, so the drains needed to be cleaned out so people could wash their hands! So we had to bite the bullet to have them fixed.

Bill planned to take today off, so I called scheduled to have the plumber to come out to fix the sinks and even look at the garbage disposal.

Bill managed to fix the disposal by just removing a piece of it, clean it out and put it back on again! It only took us 1-1/2 years to do this.

I was at work when the plumber came. When Bill called to say they were there, he mentioned that the plumber would need to to through a wall in Karen's room to get to the pipe. Bill cleared out the area in her room. We were wondering if they would fix the wall, but they wouldn't be responsible for that. That would have been a disaster! After a while, the plumber found a filter pipe in the roof where they can put a super duper snake to clear the clog. Another truck had to come with the equipment to clear the clog and they also checked the rest of the pipes in the house.

All the drains are working great and we have a warranty for the next year to have them rechecked again.

The bill was pretty high, but I look at it as this - this was the first time in 12 years that we had any kind of major plumbing problems, so if you divide the cost by 12, it all comes out pretty well in the end.

Places I've Lived

I was reading on another blog a list of places this person lived so far. Here is my list, but is not extensive as hers.

1. My mother's womb

2. An apartment in Union City, NJ. Don't remember much about this place, was just a babe. It was in the 1950s.

3. Willow Avenue in Hoboken, NJ. I remember this apartment as a railroad flat. The kitchen was at the entrance with the bathroom off of it, the next room was my parents room, then the bedroom for the four of us then the living room. (Mom, if I am wrong, just let me know). We lived there from ??-1963.

4. Hazlet, NJ. This is the home my parents purchased in 1963, raised four children with one bathroom and we all survived. They still live there and the family visits just about every Sunday, except me. Snoopy, Wilma, (dogs)Perdy, Rima and Pumpkin (cats) also lived there. Lived there from 1963-1984, with two brief move outs.

5. Bremerhaven, Germany- October 1980 -January 1981. I moved to Germany to seek work and adventure. I was living with my grandmother for the interim. Moved back to Hazlet, NJ, because I missed my family and friends.

6. Manasquan, NJ-May 1981-May 1982. Several of us rented a beach house for the summer, three block from the ocean. It was an experience of another lifetime. After the summer, my sister and I rented an apartment which we survived on grilled cheese sandwiches. It was nice apartment, with a crazy lady living downstairs.

7. First Street in Keyport, NJ. This is the home of Bill's parents and lived there for three months after we were married in 1984. 'Nough said.

8. Scheri Lane in Eatowntown, NJ. We lived in a 12x55 mobile home which we purchased in April 1984. It was home in a trailer park. This was nice place to live for a young married couple and this was Karen's first home. It was a great investment for us and we sold it for a good profit. Whenever I visit NJ and in the area, we drive past it just to look. The park has deteriorated and the trailer has not been kept nice.

9. JT Luther Drive, Fort Worth, TX. This is the two bedroom apartment (affectionately known as the flat-tops) when we moved to Fort Worth for Bill to go to seminary. All utilities were included and located in the Student Village of SWBTS. Made a lot of great friends and have fond memories living there. This was from 1987-1992.

10. William Fleming Court, Fort Worth, TX. We moved to the townhouses in the student village because I wanted my own washing machine and a little bigger place. They were really nice for the three of us, but the train was awfully noisey. We lived there from 1992-1997.

11. Garden Springs Development in Fort Worth, TX. I did not place the street address for security reasons. We moved to our four bedroom home October 31, 1997. We purchased this home because we had to move out of the Student Village because Bill got a career job at the seminary (now you can still live there as student with a career job). This has been a great place to live for the past 12 1/2 years. Karen was 13 when we moved. We had a black cat named Donny, who had to leave us because of Bill's allergies. Chance and Toffee are the puppies with us now. We have decorated the house the way we want it and there are some improvements that need to be made, as usual with homeownership. We are truly, truly, blessed to have our home and hope to stay put for awhile.

The Boys

Here are Toffee and Chance, better known as "The Boys"

Toffee, on the left, came to us via Karen. He was at Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville with the Humane Society. Karen decided to bring him home in March 2008. We know nothing about his past life. He is such a sweet old soul.

Chance, on the right, came to us because I gave a window of opportunity to get a dog in February 2001. He has been with us since he was 10 weeks old, and think he is a quart short. We love him dearly.

Oops!

On Thursday, I received a frantic phone call at work from Karen. Apparently, when Bill and I went home a lunchtime, Bill put the kettle on the stove and forgot to turn it off when we left. She said the kettle was adhered to the stove. After we got home to inspect the damage, there is an indentation on the burner where the kettle was actually attached to the stove (it has a flat surface). It could have been alot worse! We are thankful for Karen and glad the dogs were safe! We aired out the house and the kitchen does have a trace of a plastic smell from the kettle. The other burners are working fine so we are able to cook. We will monitor the stovetop just in case we have to buy a new stove.

New Rug

I have been wanting to purchase a new rug for the dining area in our kitchen. The one that was there I bought at Garden Ridge several years ago for $25 and it has served its purpose.

On Sunday I was at Target and found this rug for 30% off! It was fun trying to get it in Karen's Yaris!

Dad's Birthday

Here is video that my brother-in-law, Nick, made using my camera.
Happy Birthday, Dad!

In this video are my dad, mom, sisters Heidi and Irene, brother Fred and girlfriend Suzette, nephews Louis and Christopher, niece Sarah and me!

Wednesday's Goal

Bill and I went to dinner with Connie Weber, who was Bill's trainer at a Blackboard Certification Program, at Abuelos.  I met her once in Las Vegas for a conference and is such a delight!  We enjoyed a great evening.

Today, I will get to my next goal of cleaning the kitchen area.  The dining area of the kitchen is piled with stuff that Bill needs to go through.  Yuck.  I hope to clear the area out to maybe two of three things.  One of the best appliances I purchased as a Bissell Steam Cleaner for the floor. It gets the floor nice and clean with no chemicals.  This one is much better than the Shark model.

I think at lunch today I'll go look at curtains for the living room.  Need something different.

Tuesday's Goal

I had  to change up my goal list.  One of Bill's "Boston 8" Blackboard friends is coming into town and we are going out to dinner on Wednesday evening.  Remember I mentioned in the orginal blog about not getting out and talking to people?  Here ya go!

Karen ordered pizza for us last night (yippee) and then went to work on the living room.  I won't even get into how much dog hair I vacuumed.  So glad I bought a Dyson!

Anyway, I was done by 7:00 pm, so what was I to do?  I went on the desk top computer and listend to an old radio show "George Washington Slept Here" and played one computer game.  Then played with the dogs, chatted with Bill then went to bed.

So, tonight will be different and going out to dinner.  It will be fun going out on a school night!

Monday's Goal

Well, it can be done!  I achieved my Monday goal of cleaning our room and washing clothes..and then some!  Cooked dinner (scalloped potatos from a box, yams from the can and green beens in the microwave), cleaned the room, washed the clothes, shredded papers, and loaded the dishwasher.

One of the benefits of cleaning was that Bill continued his project of cleaning a closet and Karen also cleaned her room.  Karen and I also looked at pictures and the Mother's Day book she made me 10 years ago.

It was hard not to go on Facebook and go to the news sites to keep up with the world.  My world is just a little bit cleaner.

Oh, yea, watched "Big Bang Theory" while folding clothes!

Goal for this Week

In the evening when I come home from work, I immediately go to the tv room in the house and watch tv.  I also grab the laptop computer and go on the web and then play computer games.  This has to stop!

I have been feeling rather "sklunklish" (from Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer), just not wanting to do anything in the evenings and the weekends.  This includes cleaning the house, going out to run errands, talking to people, etc.  So here is the plan for the week:

Clean and try to begin organizing the following rooms:
Monday - clean our room and wash clothes
Tuesday - clean the computer room and the media room.  These rooms are small enough to handle in one night
Wednesday - clean the living room
   Thursday - clean the kitchen
Friday - is Joe's, Starbucks and 1/2 Price Books!  No cleaning!
Saturday - clean the bathrooms and touch up what was left over during the week.  Do something fun!

Let's see how this goes!
